Our History Beginnings of the Division
The Transportation Planning Division is one of the oldest divisions in APA. The division is one of the largest and most diverse, connecting transportation professionals in all 50 states.
Mission
The mission of the Division is to facilitate technical information sharing among members who work in transportation planning or related fields. Technical information includes but is not limited to how transportation systems move people and goods, shape urban form, affect economic vitality, and impact the quality of life.
The Division promotes professional communication among its own members, with other APA Divisions, and with other professional groups. We assess and make recommendations on policies and programs so as to derive the full public benefits of comprehensive and community-based planning that promote personal mobility and travel choices.
Membership
Our TPD Membership is strong, with over 3,000 active participants in the Division (2023).
